2 feet of heavy snow didn't stop the Bryant Park Jugglers from getting the job done on Monday...

This just in...Canada and Germany send pictures and video...

Last week we received a video and four pictures from Mark in Canada.

He writes:

'Very Entertaining'

Today I got a email and pictures from Germany that read:

'Dear Alex!
In memory of a friendly encounter in NY I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Greetings from Torsten (Germany)'

Pictures, from when the ice rink was under construction...

2010 Juggling Retrospective

Here we have a week off, and we realized that this blog was started about four months too late.  We were juggling all summer, and we have the pictures and stories to prove it.

December 20-24

Hi Ho Everyone!
We are taking the week off from juggling on the Blue.   One of our principals is on vacation and the other is having a very busy week at work.

We received a Holiday card from the Park!  That was a first, getting a card from a park.  Ha!

We should be back in action on the 27th.

A POI-fect day

We've enjoyed Bryant park will all types of people.  We've seen juggling and club spinning, diabolo, contact juggling, hula-hooping, flare bartending, unicycling, and even the occasional POI Expert. This past Monday we had a very talented POI practitioner getting in on the action. He is currently writing a software application to highlight all possible POI maneuvers.

Cold day again out there next to the ice.  We had a good showing though, despite the weather.  Seth, me, Jonathan, David 'Jugglestar' Fraiden, and a few folks who stopped by to learn.

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

A surprisingly busy day.  Deslyn and Penda stopped by.  We had Elisabetta, an Italian psychiatrist/arialist, who stayed they entire time.  She had seen us on the Bryant Park web site.  Seth, Jonathan, and Alex were there.  We had an experienced juggler in Nick as visitor.  We had a handful of learners stopping by, as well as many photographers.  We are hoping for a good return on the five or six cards we passed out.

36 Degrees Farenheit.  That is what Amy told us in the park today.  Amy is a young woman from Queensborough Community College, who joined us today for juggling in the park.  She took about fifteen minutes to get the basic pattern, and then stayed for the rest of the hour.  We were well-attended for such a cold day as well.  Seth, David, Jonathan and Will were all there.  A girl named Kelsey stopped by with two older female relations, she already knew how to juggle.  I showed her a few more tricks, and one of her companions slipped a $5 bill into my hand as they were walking away.  I have started a fund of the random money people give us in the park.  The fund stands now at $14.  I am not sure what we will do with it, but it is good to have something.

The day before Thanksgiving crowd was predictably busy.  I went skating this morning.  Skating is embarassing for me still at this stage.  I skate like a four-year-old.  Here is proof.

Krista, Will, Jonathan, Seth and me were all out there.

So, the spot at the top of the stairs was not meant to last.  Our contact at the park let me know, and we are in a new spot yet again.  On the northern side of the ice rink, there is a light-support structure.   We are directly behind it.   Also, we are back on the Park calendar effectively today!

http://www.bryantpark.org/plan-your-visit/calendar.html

It is not a bad spot and definitely high-profile, with people walking by constantly.   A family from Texas stopped by, we passed clubs around their daughters for a minute.  When we were finished, the father walked up to me, reaching for his wallet, saying "what do we owe you?"  I thought for a second, and told him he could send me one of the pictures he had just taken with his iPhone.   He sent me a blank message, intentionally or no, I wrote him back and hopefully I'll get the picture eventually.

Skating this morning was replaced by a 'private event' that turned out to be a promotional thing for one of the sponsors, an airline, with Santa, sexy, skirted elf-girls and blue-clad flightline marshallers.   We watched their 1 o'clock show before going back to work.

The article on Bryant Park jugglers finally came out in the Post.  Here is a link:

They also popped this thing up.

...right in what we had started considering our corner.   It is a Kate Spade shop, or so they say.  I actually like the igloo-style design, but it has relocated us.   For the one day we tried right in front of the stairs and planting here:

Myles stopped by fo rthe first time in a while, giving himself a pick-me-up in the middle of the day.   When I first set up, a policeman approached me almost immediately, I thought I was getting moved, and he was just telling me that Seth was inside the rink-building and wold be out in a minute.

More pictures should follow from a couple of photographers.
